Newly recruited Digital Ambassadors benefit from digital literacy skills before their deployment
This June 2024, a number of newly recruited Digital Ambassadors have undergone Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions to equip them with required digital literacy skills before they are deployed in various Cells to train citizens on basic digital literacy skills to enable them easily access e-Government services through Irembo platform. The Training sessions took place at Musanze and Nyagatare Hanga Hubs for 3 batches of Digital Ambassadors and their supervisors within which each batch was trained for 6 days. The last batch concluded their training on Saturday June 29th at Musanze Hanga Hub.
During the 6 days of training, Digital Ambassadors were trained on many topics including the functionalities of Irembo platform through which citizens will get all government services using electronic devices. They practiced on how to open Irembo accounts and help citizens and they requested some services on their own to be sure of the functionalities either using computers and smart phones as well as using SSD codes on other phones. Furthermore, trainees were trained on Personal Data Protection and Privacy law (DPP Law), its requirements for compliance purposes, communication in Government institutions and employee ethical standards among many other topics.
The Digital Ambassadors Program (DAP) is an apprenticeship government program led by RISA with the goal of increasing the number of digitally literate citizens and promoting their use of e-services. The program also creates opportunities for the youth to upskill, gain work experience and contribute to the development of their local communities.
While closing the trainings, they were reminded that they should be real ambassadors to the citizens by advancing citizens’ interest first, availing themselves to the citizens and observing honesty and integrity while working with them. They were also requested to work against the program’s target of achieving 100% youth and 60% adult digital literacy rate by end of this year and exceeding the target.
