Empowering ICT professionals for effective service delivery through Leadership Development and Team Building Training
The Rwanda Information Society Authority (RISA), in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT and Innovation (MINICT) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA Rwanda), successfully concluded the third cohort of the Leadership Development and Team Building Training; a program designed to strengthen leadership capacity and teamwork across the ICT sector. It was delivered by Kora Coaching & Business Academy.
The training was held between August 22 and September 26, 2025, this cohort brought together 70 participants from 12 public institutions. The six-day course, conducted over six weeks, combined interactive sessions, case studies, and team-building exercises to equip participants with both the mindset and practical tools for effective leadership and collaboration. This initiative reflects the joint commitment of RISA, MINICT, and JICA Rwanda to developing a skilled, motivated, and visionary ICT workforce one that not only excels in technical expertise but also demonstrates integrity, empathy, and a spirit of teamwork in public service.
Speaking at the closing event, Mr. Innocent Asiimwe Mudenge, Chief Operations and Strategy Officer at RISA, reminded participants that “leadership is not just about titles, but how you give services to others.” He emphasized that true leadership is reflected in one’s daily actions and service to citizens: “How you serve others can build or destroy your institution’s reputation and image. Leadership is about inspiring others through service, humility, and accountability.” he noted.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in discussions and practical exercises focused on emotional intelligence and communication for effective teamwork, transformational leadership and motivation in the workplace, conflict resolution and collaborative problem-solving, strategic thinking and decision-making in public service, hands-on team-building activities to strengthen trust and cooperation.
The training also encouraged participants to reflect on their role as leaders and change agents driving Rwanda’s digital transformation in alignment with the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) and Vision 2050.
By the end of the six-week program, participants expressed appreciation for the learning opportunity, noting that it enhanced their understanding of servant leadership, institutional accountability, and effective communication. Many participants described it as a transformative experience that will help them contribute more effectively to their institutions’ missions.
The success of this third cohort marks another milestone in RISA’s ongoing capacity-building initiatives, aimed at fostering a professional, ethical, and high-performing ICT workforce that is central to Rwanda’s digital transformation journey.
